What Others Say About Guy
"I reached out to Guy as I was returning to the sport of running after having run in high school and taking almost a decade away from training. I was targeting my first marathon and had set the lofty goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon, and I knew I really needed expert help to meet my goal.
When I began with Guy, I had no idea on how to train for a marathon. I was seeking guidance to plan and execute a training regimen that was appropriately structured, time-efficient, and optimized to balance both my short- and long-term progress. Guy helped me understand his training approach, nutrition and recovery -- and he guided me to build routines and set intentions that best served me.
I have now completed 3 marathons and achieved time qualifiers for the Boston, New York and Berlin Marathons. Most importantly, I am as in love with the sport as I was at age 16, and I’m excited to train for years to come! I can confidently say that I wouldn’t be anywhere near the runner I am today, without Guy’s guidance."

"Guy is an amazing coach. He develops all aspects of preparing you mentally and physically. I hired him to improve my marathon time and ran back-to-back huge PR’s with a 3:23:10 at Chicago and 3:17:04 at California International, at age 47! More recently, with Guy’s help, I knocked 13 minutes off my previous marathon, to once again qualify for the Boston Marathon. I know many runners who have gotten the same results with Guy’s coaching. Guy has a way of pulling out your best, and in the process, you learn a lot!"

"Through my experience with Coach Guy, I have been able to run big PR’s at every race distance that I have wanted to race. Ranging from the mile to the marathon, with times of 14:37 for 5K, 24:35 for 5M, 1:10:21 for the half-marathon -- and 2:28:59 in my first-ever marathon, on relatively low mileage where I averaged only 55 miles per week.
During my time with Coach Guy, he’s been able to help me navigate my busy and sometimes unpredictable schedule as a medical student. He lacks no insecurity in his approach to training, which has been key for me as he instills confidence in me.
Guy is excellent at gauging my potential and showing me my upside with consistently clear intention. If you are looking for excellent training and racing guidance to achieve your goals or smash your PR’s, I highly recommend joining one of his online training groups, or being personally coached 1:2:1."

"Guy Avery truly helped change the trajectory of my running career starting in high school. When I first started training with Guy, he helped me improve all of my times ranging from the 800m to the 1600m to 3200m to 5k, allowing me to run at a collegiate level. Not only did he help me improve physically, but he also helped me develop more confidence in myself, my training, and in my racing skills.
After having multiple overuse injuries in college, Guy helped me gradually return to training healthy, for half-marathons and marathons. With a busy work schedule as a nurse, Guy helped set me up for success with a fairly low mileage, but high quality plan. He helped me run PRs in both the half marathon (1:18.01) and in my marathon debut with a 2:55:09 on a slow marathon course and very windy and rainy conditions.
Not only did he help me improve my times, but he also helped me regain my love for the sport and confidence in my training. Guy has a keen ability to personalize training for each individual athlete in order to help them achieve their best results. Guy takes the time to get to know how each athlete benefits from training and he instills in them, the all-important confidence to set new goals and pursue them."

"Guy Avery is a great coach. Before working with Guy, I ran two marathons attempting to qualify for Boston and I fell short each time. I joined a marathon training group led by Guy Avery and I finally qualified for the Boston Marathon. I was one of the 18 runners in Guy’s marathon training group, that averaged an amazing 14-minute improvement versus their previous marathon times! Guy puts together the puzzle pieces in a synergistic way and the results are magical. Having Guy Avery as my coach, made all the difference for me!"

"Guy is an amazing coach who helped me improve my half-marathon from 1:45 to 1:38 to 1:30 in 18 months! His personalized, structured approach has suited my needs perfectly. He emphasizes self-care and self-awareness during training, which is very important to me. My running has remained consistent and solid thanks to his coaching support. He is terrific at assessing my progress, making recommendations that work for me, and pushing me to stretch my abilities to a level that I never would have dreamed of, without his help!"

"I have learned so much about running, training, recovery and nutrition from Guy. With Guy’s help, I ran PR’s at all distances from 5K to the marathon. I qualified for the Boston Marathon multiple times and dropped my marathon time with each training block. I still use many of his key runs and workouts in my training. Guy also helped prepare me for the mental challenges of racing. We set big goals and with his guidance, we crushed all of them!”

"To make a long story short: If you want a great coach, look no further than Guy Avery!
I was an international student at Belmont University, and Guy helped me to become an NAIA All-American Marathoner by placing 5th overall in 90+ degrees and humid conditions in Atlanta. Guy's expert knowledge, guidance & support paired with his honest communication style, was instrumental to my feeling prepared and confident on race day. I could not have accomplished this without Guy!"

"Years of high mileage and injuries in college came to mind as I contemplated training for my first marathon. It was Coach Avery’s guidance that provided an injury-free foundation of quality lower-mileage training that produced a successful marathon debut of 2:37 -- despite rainy and windy conditions on a challenging course.
My marathon performance topped off a very successful six-month training block, where I did some of my best racing ever, including personal best times at several distances. My surprising results were enhanced by clearly communicated intentions for every workout and every race, which built my confidence in knowing I was fully prepared.
Overall, this was the most successful period of consistent, injury-free training and enjoyable racing experiences that I’ve ever had. My experience with Coach Avery during this time, was a huge positive influence on me."
